Carrier’s liability is the scope of responsibility borne by the carrier for the goods from the moment they are accepted for carriage until they are delivered to the consignee. It includes liability for loss of, damage to or delay in delivery of the goods, in accordance with the applicable law.
The scope of the carrier’s liability may be limited by regulations or by the contract of carriage, which is why in practice it is often supplemented by cargo insurance, which provides broader financial protection for the owner of the goods.
Carrier’s liability takes on particular importance in higher-risk carriage, such as ADR transport, where additional safety requirements apply.
