Oversized transport is a type of transport in which loads exceeding the permissible dimensions set out in road regulations – such as width, height or length – are carried. It applies, among others, to structural elements, machinery and equipment that cannot be carried by standard means of transport.
Oversized transport requires detailed route planning, obtaining the appropriate permits and often additional securing or escort vehicles, which affects the organisation of the carriage and transit time.
Unlike abnormal transport, this term refers only to exceeding the permissible dimensions of the load, not its weight or axle loads.
